Extension Programs

From the academic year June 1998, a student and staff exchange facility instituted according to an agreement signed between Gurukul, CReNIEO and representatives of the Finnish Church. These students' exchanges had been already initiated between the two partners.

International Network in Advanced Theological Education (INATE)

This networking aims at contributing to a theological education and reflection that is internationally oriented i.e. cross-cultural and ecumenical, and yet consciously committed to the cause of the poor and marginalized. The institutions involved in this network at present are: Faculty of Theology, University of Oslo, Norway; School of Theology, University of Natal, South Africa; Escola Superior de Teologia, Sao Leopoldo, Brazil; Evangelical Lutheran Theological University, Budapest, Hungary; Lutheran Theological Seminary, Hong Kong, and Gurukul Lutheran Theological College & Research Institute, Chennai, India. Theological education in Brazil, South Africa, Hong Kong, Hungary, Norway and India will co-operate through the mutual exchange of students at advanced level (Master's program) and of staff, through a common development of curricula for an internationally oriented contextual theology, and through research and information exchange.

Free University, Amsterdam
("Bridging the Gaps")

The program "Breuken en Bruggen" ("Bridging the Gaps") is a program of the Faculty of Theology, Free University, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Realizing that theological reflection should never lose sight of developments in other contexts and continents, in collaboration with Dutch churches and a number of foundations, the Free University initiated this Project. In response to their invitation Gurukul sends one M.Th. student year by year for a period of three months to participate in this program.

Free University, Amsterdam
("M.A. in Contextual and Cross Cultural Theology")

This is a one year Master's Program developed by the Faculty of Theology, Free University, Amsterdam, to harvest the richness of cross-cultural theological encounter. The candidates spend three months in residence at the Free University and return to their home institutions to continue their studies under the guidance of a local tutor. Gurukul is an important partner in this venture and its first graduate was in July, 2003.
